Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen fired two ballistic missiles at a U.S. destroyer in the Gulf of Aden just after midnight on Monday after the vessel thwarted an attempt by terrorists to seize a tanker connected to an Israeli businessman.

A small group of pirates tried to hijack a tanker owned by an Israeli businessman. The USS Mason responded to a distress call and forced the terrorists back onto their boat. According to reports, it appears the would-be pirates were killed.

Soon afterward, missiles were fired from Houthi-controlled bases in Yemen. The missiles were fired at the Mason and the tanker ship. It is unknown who the original pirates were working for, but it is likely they were allied with the Houthi terrorists.

These terrorists in Yemen receive support from Iran, which is the largest state supporter of terrorism in the region. Iran and the U.S. appear to be engaged in proxy fighting. Iranian-backed forces have attacked American bases numerous times since October.

The missiles fired by the Houthi terrorists did not reach the American ship. But it has not been reported if they were shot down by U.S. forces.

This episode comes as many fear a larger conflict could erupt. Israel agreed to a temporary ceasefire with Hamas, but it is likely they will continue fighting until the terror group is wiped out. Iran’s ongoing support for Hamas and other terror groups could spill over into a conflict with the United States.
