So far, there is only one official candidate for the 2024 presidential election: former President Donald Trump.
Current President Joe Biden has said he plans to run again but hasn’t yet made it 100% official; reports are that he’ll formally announce in January.
And as for GOP favorite Ron DeSantis, the Florida Governor hasn’t said he will definitely run.
But another Republican candidate is “prepared” to jump into the ring.
However, those who support Trump might not like this new possibility, even though he was a top-ranked White House official during the Trump term.
It’s former national security adviser John Bolton, who said that if Republicans don’t abandon Trump, he’ll have to run.
When you challenge the Constitution itself, that is un-American. If the current GOP presidential candidates don't repudiate Trump, I'm prepared to get in the race. pic.twitter.com/mKnU2tDhyc
— John Bolton (@AmbJohnBolton) December 5, 2022
This revelation came during NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, and he ripped Trump for his controversial Constitution comments.
Those were in reaction to new Twitter boss Elon Musk releasing the “Twitter files,” which showed censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop.
The former POTUS then posted on Truth Social:
So, with the revelation of MASSIVE & WIDESPREAD FRAUD & DECEPTION in working closely with Big Tech Companies, the DNC, & the Democrat Party, do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION?
Trump then said a “massive fraud” like this “allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution.”
For millions of Americans who wholeheartedly support the Constitution, this was a problematic remark.
And Bolton’s response was clear:
I think to be a presidential candidate you can’t simply say, ‘I support the Constitution.’ You have to say, ‘I would oppose people who would undercut it.’
When you challenge the Constitution itself the way Trump has done, that is un-American.
Bolton later claimed that “nearly 95% of Republican voters” don’t agree that Trump is more important than the Constitution.
He added that he believes most GOP members aren’t on board with Trump, but they’re “intimidated.”
At this point, Bolton’s 2024 decision will come down to how Republicans react to Trump. If he doesn’t like it, he’ll “seriously consider getting in.”
And if he does officially announce his candidacy, expect Trump to quickly react.
Key Takeaways:
- Former national security adviser John Bolton said he’s “prepared” to enter the 2024 presidential race.
- Bolton says if the GOP doesn’t “repudiate” Donald Trump’s Constitution comments, he will be forced to run.
- Bolton further claimed that most Republicans disagree with Trump on this, but are “intimidated.”
