Right now, it’s the big question for Republican politicians and citizens nationwide: will Donald Trump run for President again in 2024?
In a recent internal party poll, more than half (53 percent) of GOP members said they’d nominate Trump again. The former Commander-in-Chief hasn’t confirmed anything yet, of course.
However, he will be back on the campaign trail in 2021.
This is the first time since leaving office that Trump has announced he’ll be doing any campaigning in the future. And while it’s not for himself in this case, it’s still big news for Conservatives.
Trump continues to rail against elected officials he doesn’t like, and that includes Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski.
Murkowski, who identifies as a Republican, has been at odds with Trump for some time. Now Donald has some pretty strong words for her, and said a statement: I’m coming to Alaska.
From Fox News:
Former President Donald Trump said he would campaign against Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, and blasted her as a ‘disloyal and very bad Senator’ in a statement this weekend.
‘I will not be endorsing, under any circumstances, the failed candidate from the great State of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski,’ Trump said in a statement.
‘She represents her state badly and her country even worse. I do not know where other people will be next year, but I know where I will be – in Alaska campaigning against a disloyal and very bad Senator.’
Trump takes particular issue with a recent decision of Murkoski’s.
That was to support “radical left Democrat Deb Haaland for Secretary of the Interior,” a move that Trump quickly slammed.
On top of that, the Alaska politician was just one of seven Senators who voted to convict Trump on the charge of inciting the Jan. 6 uprising. Those 7 GOP members have taken a lot of heat since.
However, Trump is going to have his work cut out for him if he wishes to unseat Murkowski.
The Cook Political Report rates her as “solidly Republican,” and she’s been pretty popular for nearly a decade. That doesn’t mean she’s immune, though.
In fact, she lost the Republican primary back in 2010 to a Tea Party challenger, even though she managed to win as a write-in candidate during the general election.
It’s no surprise to see Trump going after those he views as “RINOs.” It’s also no surprise that he’s going after any Republicans that turned against him during the impeachment trial.
But more importantly is the fact that Trump will be campaigning in some capacity in 2021.
And that could just be the tip of the iceberg.
- Former President Donald Trump announces he has campaigning plans for 2021.
- He plans to campaign against the “disloyal and very bad” Alaska Senator, Lisa Murkowski.
- Murkowski was one of seven Republicans to vote to convict Trump as his last impeachment trial.
- Trump’s announcement could suggest that he intends to remain strongly in the political sphere.
