Donald Trump is currently leading in numerous GOP primary polls. Despite major headwinds from indictments and other scandals, he is neck-and-neck with Joe Biden in some general election polls. The former president is in the process of trying to win moderate and swing voters. He has changed his stance on abortion to appeal to liberals and is supporting the UAW union’s strike.

Should he win the election in 2024, he will have four more years to continue his agenda. That will require cooperation with Congress, which stonewalled his work for two years in his first term. The 22nd Amendment limits presidents to two four-year terms, a measure enacted after former President Franklin Roosevelt was elected to four terms.

Donald Trump said in a recent interview that he would not seek a third term, should he win the 2024 Election. The former president explained that he only needed “six months to a year” to accomplish his plans.

He claimed that anyone who needs “eight years” to get the job done is not qualified for the office. This is an odd statement, given he will have served eight years if he’s elected next year.

Regardless of Trump’s answer, it would be highly unlikely that he could be elected for a third term. Presidents have only run for two terms since the days of George Washington. President Franklin Roosevelt broke that precedent when he ran and won four times.

After his time in office, the country quickly passed a constitutional amendment to set term limits for presidents. Barring a major change to our Constitution, Trump would not even launch a campaign after a second term.

Some of his rivals have warned voters that Trump only has four years to get his work done. Some have even suggested the gains he achieved in his first term have been wiped out by COVID and Biden’s agenda.
