Trump Jumps on DeSantis Bootgate ‘Scandal’ – But Donald May Have Forgotten 1 Inconvenient Truth

What’s Happening:

For most of the Republican primaries, Gov. Ron DeSantis has been polling second to Donald Trump. It seems that Trump is worried about DeSantis; he has been attacking him since before DeSantis announced a campaign.

Recently, however, rumors have arisen over DeSantis’s height. Some have accused the candidate of wearing inserts in his boots to make him appear taller.

Some are calling this collection of stories “Bootgate.” Now, Donald Trump’s campaign–which has made shocking attacks against DeSantis in the past–is jumping on the controversy.

From The Post Millennial:
“A scathing new article from POLITICO about Ron DeSanctimnonious’ high-heeled shoes comes on the heels of an embarrassing interview on the Patrick Bet-David show that led to #bootgate trending on X,” the statement from Trump spokesman Steven Cheung began…

The statement noted the “laughable claim” from DeSantis that he is 5’11″, adding that “instead of telling the truth and just being comfortable in his own skin, he resorts to borderline psychotic behavior by lying to the American people. Is that what this country wants in a president?

Donald Trump’s campaign press team stooped to a new long to mock Ron DeSantis over claims he wears inserts in his boots. Trump’s people unironically claimed that DeSantis should be “comfortable in his own skin” claiming he is not 5’11”.

The Trump campaign has spent considerable time over the last few days hyping up this “Bootgate” online. They have even pointed to articles consulting shoemakers who claim that DeSantis is wearing height boosters.

Vivek Ramaswamy, who some say is a Trump plant, has also mocked DeSantis, claiming he looked taller during the last debate.

Trump’s campaign has apparently forgotten the former president’s long history of defending his appearance. The Republican is often criticized for his apparent tanning habits and his “iconic” combover, masking his receding hairline.

Trump has waged feuds with media outlets over the reported size of his hands. There is even a Supreme Court battle over merchandise mocking Trump’s hands–which might have been set off by Trump himself.

The Trump campaign went as far as to insult DeSantis’s supporters, calling them DeSimps who are “bootlickers” for defending the Florida governor. Trump is apparently staging a torched-earth campaign to defeat his closest rival, a tactic that will surely alienate many voters.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Trump campaign went overboard in mocking Ron DeSantis over “Bootgate.”
  • Trump’s team accused DeSantis of wearing lifts in his boots, despite a lack of evidence.
  • They said this despite the fact Trump has long fought over the size of his hands, his hair, and oddly tanned skin.
