The 2020 election is right around the corner, and many polls show Democrat hopeful Joe Biden in the lead. However, state polling remains extremely close in most cases.
And things are getting awfully interesting in certain states. For example, the historically Red Texas could shift allegiances for the first time in a while.
Two months ago, Biden led President Trump by 5 points according to polling.
However, while Democrats rejoiced at the time, it looks like the state has experienced a big swing in the weeks since.
It was a surprise to see a Democrat with a 5-point lead over a Republican President in Texas, but now it appears that lead is gone.
In fact, Trump has evidently caught up to and surpassed his opponent (via Breitbart):
According to the survey, taken August 28 to September 2, Trump is strengthening in the Lone Star State, leading his Democrat opponent by two percentage points, 48 percent to 46 percent.
According to the Dallas Morning News, that represents a significant shift in the president’s direction, given that he trailed the former vice president by five points in July.
Poll director Mark Owens confirmed that “Trump is ahead,” and added that the President is being helped by Sen. John Cornyn.
Cornyn (R-TX) currently holds a significant 11-point lead over his Democrat opponent, MJ Hegar.
This could prove that Texas isn’t quite ready to turn Blue just yet. Though it’s important to note that Biden still holds the lead among independents in Texas (39% to 30%).
While another poll from RealClearPolitics shows Trump holding a 3.5% lead over Biden in Texas, Trump beat Hillary Clinton by 9 points in 2016.
So, it’s definitely closer this time around.
But polls continue to fluctuate on a weekly basis and sometimes, they fluctuate wildly in particular areas of the country.
That’s largely due to the current instability of the country in general (ranging from the pandemic to racial tensions). So it’s difficult to predict who will come out on top in November.
That being said, Trump will definitely want to hold Texas, and other historically Red states.
- The latest 2020 election poll shows a big swing in the state of Texas.
- 2 months ago, Biden led Trump by 5 points. But now the President is in front by 2 points.
- Texas might remain very closely contested up until November, but Trump will invariably want to hold it.
