Plenty of Republicans have dissected the 2022 Midterms. Many are wondering why there wasn’t the predicted “red wave,” despite plenty of polls that showed voters are sick of Biden. Some might have their theories, but a few things are undeniable.
Republicans had big wave victories, in certain key states. Even in California, Republicans were able to keep or take critical House seats–despite being in the biggest blue state in America. Even in New York, Republicans won upset victories, as every county shifted to the right.
How is this possible? Some Republicans got smart and retooled their election strategies. And Ted Cruz is calling on the entire party to do the same.
On Tuesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) responded to a question on whether Republican voters should stop avoiding early voting and voting by mail by stating that the GOP must use “every tool we can to turn out votes, every tool that is legal.” […]
“… So, do Republicans and conservatives need to get over the reluctance and resistance to mail-in ballots and early voting that they seem to show?”
Cruz responded, “Well, listen, there’s no doubt that we need to use every tool we can to turn out votes, every tool that is legal.”
Sean Hannity pointed out that, since COVID, Democrats have been able to produce votes by exploiting legal avenues like mail-in ballots, early voting, drop-off boxes, and ballot curing. Republicans have complained that these measures are not “fair,” but in many states, they are perfectly legal.
Cruz said that Republicans need to use “every toll that is legal” to bring out the vote. In some states, Republicans rely on Election Day turnout to win elections. But they are often already losing because Democrats banked votes through early voting and mail-in ballots.
Democrats learned that using these methods can bring in votes from people who would otherwise not even vote. They go to them and get them to vote. Meanwhile, Republicans sit on their hands and complain.
But even in states like California, Republicans are scoring upset wins by legal ballot harvesting, drop-off boxes, and early voting. In Texas, Florida, and Georgia, they have weeks of early voting. Republicans still win big.
Republicans in Arizona, Pennsylvania, and other states need to take Cruz’s comments to heart. Voters are angry at Democrats. They want change. But Democrats have a strong election system that produces votes. If Republicans can’t adapt, they will keep losing.
- Ted Cruz called on Republicans to use every legal tool to win elections.
- In some states ballot harvesting, mail-in ballots, and other measures help Democrats win.
- Republicans need to adapt and build new strategies if they want to win in 2024.
