Surprise Animal Tumbles from the Sky – And Causes 1 Instant Problem for Thousands of Residents

What’s Happening:

When the temperatures rise, power demand skyrockets. It’s not too uncommon for the energy grid to struggle to provide energy. That often results in outages, even in the most robust electric grid. But in one New Jersey town, they experienced an outage nobody was expecting!

Lower Sayreville wasn’t expecting a visit to drop out of the sky and clobber their community. Sure, you might expect certain kinds of creatures to fall from the heavens. But this really took the cake. And police are on a manhunt, of sorts, to find the culprit!

From Fox News:

A fish dropped out of the sky by its bird captor caused a power outage for a section of homes in a New Jersey town, officials say.

“There is a large area of Lower Sayreville without power. [Jersey Central Power & Light] is reporting a [fish emoji] was found on a transformer. This FISH destroyed the transformer!,” the Sayreville Police Department posted to its Facebook page Saturday…

“The hypothesis is that a bird dropped it,” Sayreville Police Department Lt. James Novak told NJ Advance Media. “It just landed perfectly and destroyed the transformer.” The bird suspect is allegedly an osprey, also known as a “sea hawk.”

Well, I’d never thought I’d see the day. A local osprey was flying over Lower Sayreville recently. Apparently, the bird had a great catch in its beak, a large fish. But the flying fisher was unable to hold onto its prey.

It dropped the fish onto a transformer. Now, you’d might expect a fish to just bounce off a transformer. But the force of the collision was so great, it left a large portion of the town without power!

Talk about a birdbrained move!

Transformers are prone to disaster. They are often hammered by lightning strikes or falling trees during storms. Crews work around the clock, in some locales, to repair these vital pieces of infrastructure. But a fish!?

Maybe they should put a few nets up around the transformer, to protect them from falling seafood! Workers labored for about two hours to quickly get power restored. But this is one strange incident locals won’t soon forget.

Key Takeaways:

  • An osprey dropped a fish on a New Jersey transformer, knocking out power in a town.
  • Over 2,000 residents of Lower Sayreville were without power for nearly 2 hours.
  • This is the first time in recorded history when fish took out a transformer.
