What’s Happening:

Thanks to the left, millions of people in America think the government exists to take care of them. Democrats have created a welfare state, which depends on the federal government for nearly everything.

So much so, entire communities are full of people who don’t work–demanding checks from the government.

The Navajo Nation, a reservation that is considered the sovereign land of the native group, was demanding the U.S. government go out of its way to bail them out. An 1868 treaty established the reservation, but the Ninth Circuit claimed the government had to go ahead and build out infrastructure the Navajos should have taken care of themselves.

The issue went to the Supreme Court and it set the record straight. From The Daily Caller:

The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 Thursday that the federal government does not need to take affirmative steps to secure water for the Navajo Nation, reversing the Ninth Circuit’s decision…

“[T]he United States has no duty to farm the land, mine the minerals, or harvest the timber on the reservation—or, for that matter, to build roads and bridges on the reservation,” he wrote. “Just as there is no such duty with respect to the land, there likewise is no such duty with respect to the water.”

The Supreme Court ruled that the United States was not obligated to build a water infrastructure for the Navajo Nation, based on a treaty that created the reservation. The court reasoned that it was not the government’s job to farm land for the Navajos, nor mine minerals for them. So, why should it build the infrastructure for providing water?

Keep in mind, Indian reservations are considered property of the respective nations. While part of the U.S., they have their own jurisdiction. It appears this group wanted to have their cake and eat it too, running their own land while getting the U.S. to do all the hard work for them.

You would expect your local government to secure water for your community, but that comes at a price. You pay property taxes or an actual water bill to enjoy your water. But native lands have certain exemptions from U.S. taxes.

This isn’t a matter of the government providing a needed service to Americans, but a group wanting the government to pay for something they should pay for themselves. Sound familiar?

All the liberal justices disagreed with this ruling, as well as Neil Gorsuch, a Trump appointee.
