Supreme Court Hit with Red State Demand – They Want to Bring Back 1 Controversial Law

What’s Happening:

Republican-led states have been passing numerous pieces of legislation to combat Biden’s agenda. Conservatives have been on the warpath, banning policies and practices that are largely embraced by liberal states–and seemingly endorsed by the White House.

Most red states have passed laws banning abortions, eliminating CRT in schools, and setting strict limits on transgender procedures for minors.

In one conservative state, they passed a law that would further protect children from harm. A restaurant sued, leading to a lower court overturning the law. Now, the state is appealing to the highest authority in the land.

From Daily Caller:
Florida asked the Supreme Court on Thursday to reinstate a law that makes admitting children to drag shows illegal…

Failing to lift the injunction would leave Florida “powerless to enforce a law its elected representatives have enacted for the protection of its children,” according to the application. The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals declined 2-1 to freeze the lower court’s injunction earlier in October.

A restaurant that hosted “family-friendly” drag shows sued Florida. A new Florida law threatened to revoke a venue’s license if it hosted “adult live performances” before children. This came in response to reports that drag shows were being held at schools and other functions.

A lower court overturned the law, claiming it likely violates the First Amendment. Florida is appealing to Justice Clarence Thomas in an emergency application to reinstate the law.

It’s unclear at the time of this writing how the court will decide. Other states, such as Tennessee, have also passed similar bans. Democrats and activists will argue that state governments do not have the power to prevent these shows, citing free speech laws.

However, the government has always set age limits on certain content. Age restrictions are put into place for a variety of adult material, to prevent children from being exposed to it. Florida might argue this law is a similar measure, to protect children from being harmed.

The progressive left has become aggressive in a seeming attempt to expose children to content many view as inappropriate or immoral. There appears to be no qualms by public schools and other institutions over this controversy.

Key Takeaways:

  • Florida appealed to the Supreme Court to reinstate a child ban for drag shows.
  • The state law prohibits drag shows and similar events from welcoming children.
  • Activists are opposing the law, claiming it violates the First Amendment.
