Supreme Court Makes 1 Major Decision – Drops the Gavel in Critical Red State Case

The Supreme Court has been making critical decisions on state laws. Recently, it struck down a controversial law out of New York affecting the Second Amendment.

It recently agreed to hear cases that could affect how states run elections.

Now, a major law from a red state has been brought before the court. It touches on a landmark decision the court made in 2022. But before they make a final ruling, they just granted a huge win.

From Daily Wire:
The Supreme Court has allowed an Idaho law making it a crime to perform an abortion to take effect before it weighs in on the law.

A federal judge had previously blocked implementation of Idaho’s “Defense of Life Act” after the Biden administration sued to overturn the law saying that it violated the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act. The Supreme Court is expected to hear the case in April but will allow the law to be enforced in the meantime.

The Biden administration sued Iowa over a law that makes abortion a crime. A lower court blocked the law. But the case was taken to the Supreme Court. The highest court in the land scored a major win for Iowa by deciding the law can stay in place, while the case is being decided.

In 2022, the Supreme Court issued a historic ruling, overturning Roe v Wade. In its decision, the court ruled that states had the power to pass laws regulating abortion. Since then, many red states have passed laws greatly restricting the practice or banning it outright.

The Biden administration has been fighting to undermine the court’s ruling and states’ laws. President Biden himself has schemed to find ways of providing abortion access in red states—including sending the so-called abortion pill to women via mail.

Biden’s DOJ has claimed Iowa’s law violates the EMTLA, which requires medical providers to provide life-saving care. Iowa’s lawmakers, however, claimed its anti-abortion law does that very thing, by protecting the lives of women and unborn children.

The Supreme Court may ultimately rule in favor of Iowa, given its previous decision.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Supreme Court allowed a law criminalizing abortion to stand in Iowa.
  • The court will be deciding on the case, which has come from the Biden administration.
  • President Biden has fought red states that have passed laws restricting abortion.
