Squad Alarm-Puller Didn’t Get Away with It – Look What Just Happened to This Top Democrat

Weeks ago, Congress was disrupted by the sudden sound of an alarm. It happened as former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy warred with both parties to avert a shutdown.

As the House was about to vote to secure a deal and achieve a bi-partisan victory, Democrat Jamaal Bowman pulled a fire alarm in the congressional office building. Video footage showed the congressman pulling the alarm, despite there being any cause.

Many Republicans have accused Bowman of trying to deliberately disrupt congressional proceedings–perhaps to rob House Republicans of a win. Democrats tried to prevent Bowman from being held accountable, but they fell short.

From Daily Wire:
The GOP-led House opted on Wednesday to advance a resolution to censure Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) for pulling a fire alarm in a congressional office building.

A motion to table the measure from the Democrats failed by a 216-201 vote…

Bowman took a plea deal on a misdemeanor count of falsely pulling a fire alarm that resulted in a temporary evacuation of the Cannon House Office Building in late September ahead of a government spending vote.

Democrats tried to block the advancement of a resolution to censure Rep. Bowman for pulling a fire alarm as the House voted on a bill to prevent a government shutdown. Bowman claims he did not pull the fire alarm as a delay tactic–yet there appears to be no legitimate reason for him to do it.

Democrats tried to prevent the resolution but fell short by several votes. A vote of 216-201 allowed the resolution to move forward. The final resolution could pass soon, which would provide a stinging rebuke to the progressive congressman.

The House has been aggressive, this year, in confronting controversial or seemingly unacceptable behavior by its members. It voted to censure two other Democrats this year, Adam Schiff and Rashida Tlaib.

The most significant move was the expulsion of Republican Rep. George Santos, who has been indicted on 23 federal charges. Santos’s removal from office might have sent shockwaves through Congress, terrifying some while emboldening others.

Key Takeaways:

  • Democrats in the House failed to block a resolution to censure Rep. Jamaal Bowman.
  • Bowman pulled a fire alarm in September, during a critical vote to avoid a shutdown.
  • The progressive denies pulling the alarm to disrupt Congress but has provided no other reason.
