Our servicemen and women make the ultimate sacrifice to uphold and defend our Constitution. It’s only fitting that we, in turn, take care of them after they come home from fighting for our freedom.

The Obama administration didn’t see it that way, however, and allowed dozens of veterans to die while waiting for care. At the Phoenix VA facilities in 2014 alone, at least 40 United States Armed Forces veterans died instead of receiving the healthcare they were promised.

In that same year, an audit discovered that over 120,000 veterans were left waiting, or didn’t receive any care at all.

The fallout from the VA scandal was so great that then-Secretary Eric Shinseki was forced to resign. Obama’s next appointee, David Shulkin, has done little to undertake the reforms necessary to make the VA function properly and efficiently. Shulkin was also caught using VA funds for personal travel expenses.

Trump has had enough with giving our veterans less than the best and is shaking up the VA to ensure that no veteran dies while waiting for care ever again.

President Donald Trump fired Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin on Wednesday and nominated White House doctor Ronny Jackson to replace him in the wake of a bruising ethics scandal and a mounting rebellion within the agency.

A Navy rear admiral, Jackson is a surprise choice to succeed Shulkin, a former Obama administration official and the first non-veteran ever to head the VA. Trump had been considering replacements for Shulkin for weeks, but had not been known to be considering Jackson for the role.

White House doctor Ronny Jackson was reportedly selected because he impressed the president greatly with his handling of the press during a briefing on the President’s health in January.

When Jackson faced the firing squad known as the liberal media, he masterfully shot down the ridiculous questions he was asked by reporters desperate to hear that the President had Alzheimer’s or dementia or anything else that they could impeach him over.

The president rewards loyalty, as we’ve seen in the past. Jeff Sessions received his post as Attorney General because he was one of the first Senators to come out in support of Trump during the 2016 election.

Jackson is reportedly eager to fill this role, while some veterans are skeptical that he has the experience necessary to do the job.

If Jackson does indeed fail to thrive in his new office, we at least have a president who isn’t afraid to say, “You’re Fired!”
