After Romney Makes His Big Announcement – Trump Responds with 4 Fantastic Words

What’s Happening:

This news may not lead to dancing in the streets, but it surely brings a breath of fresh air for Americans who pay attention to politics. A long-standing and often divisive figure in the Republican party made a huge announcement that spread like wildfire among the party faithful.

U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) is packing up his office and vacating his Senate seat in Jan. 2025. His bid for another term in office is over. Romney made the announcement Wednesday in a video on X, the social media platform formally known as Twitter.

The news was met with celebration from the GOP frontrunner who wants a return to the White House in 2025 when Romney is gone. Former President Donald Trump didn’t hold back how he felt about Romney and his leaving office, exclaiming his thoughts on Truth Social in all caps.

From the Daily Caller:

“FANTASTIC NEWS FOR AMERICA…,” Trump wrote. “MITT ROMNEY, SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS PIERRE DELECTO, WILL NOT BE SEEKING A SECOND TERM IN THE U.S. SENATE, WHERE HE DID NOT SERVE WITH DISTINCTION.”

Trump pointed out that Romney faces a strong primary fight for re-election which won’t be necessary. Trump for years has been highly critical of Romney after he “choked like a dog” in the 2012 presidential race against Barak Obama. Trump also claimed that Romney “begged” for his endorsement in 2012.

Romney drew Trump’s ire further when the soon-to-be former senator was the only Senate Republican to vote in favor of convicting Trump during the first impeachment trial for Trump when he was president. Trump was acquitted by the overall Senate.

Romney also took Trump to task when he joined six other Republicans to vote for impeachment of Trump in the second impeachment trial over allegedly inciting an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Romney was back-and-forth in his acceptance of Trump over the years. He publicly said he would not have accepted Trump’s endorsement in the 2012 election, but then openly accepted Trump’s endorsement for his Senate bid in 2018.

Romney’s exit is considered by many Republicans as a welcome opportunity to bring a new face to D.C. with fewer “swamp” connections than Romney. Trump couldn’t help himself as he celebrated Romney’s announced departure.

“CONGRATS TO ALL,” Trump said on Truth Social. “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Clearly stated about a senator who disappointed many Americans across the nation.

Key Takeaways:

  • Mitt Romney takes to social media to announce a huge change.
  • Donald Trump responds on Truth Social with “bigly” response.
  • The former president says Americans will be better off in 2025.
