Democrats don’t want any more anti-establishment Republicans running for office in 2024, but they’ll have to plan for this firebrand’s campaign. Arizona’s senate race just heated up after this latest announcement from a candidate who will speak her mind.
The liberal-focused Democratic Party is defending more Senate seats next year than Republicans. The GOP is looking to flip just enough seats to win back the majority. If the House maintains a GOP majority, then Republicans would be a formidable opposition to the president’s plans and policies.
Regaining the Senate majority means Republicans must field strong candidates who can combat the liberal media and raise money. Arizona just became a hotbed of attention after former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake announced her Senate bid in the Grand Canyon State on Tuesday.

“I am not going to retreat. I am going to stand on top of this hill with every single one of you, and I know you’re by my side as I formally announce my candidacy for the United States Senate,” Lake said.
She made the announcement to roaring applause from her supporters in Scottsdale, Arizona. Lake has been teasing plans and is now set to take on the competition. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and incumbent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) are her likely challengers.
Lake didn’t waste time jumping into campaign mode as she attacked the Democrats in her announcement speech. The Republican hopeful positioned herself as “the only mom in the race” and touted the “Reagan Revolution” that “showed us that truly outsiders and citizens can shake up the status quo and deliver real tangible results for the American people.”
Lake openly embraced the populism of former presidents Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump who rallied the American people to get elected. She displayed a large, prerecorded video of Trump endorsing her campaign.
“When I’m back in the White House, I need strong fighters like Kari in the Senate,” Trump said. “She is a fighter, she is strong, and she’s good. She’s got a great heart, by the way.”
Arizona is a pivotal win for Republicans next year and Lake will need to have plenty of heart to overcome Democrat strongholds in the more populated areas of Arizona. Lake lost the Arizona gubernatorial election to now-Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) in a razor-thin result.
Lake’s position in the Senate race looks promising considering recent independent polling conducted by National Research. Lake leads the field with 37% support compared to 33% who said they would back Gallego. Another 19% said they would reelect Sinema, while 10% of voters remain undecided.
