Republicans Move to Impeach Top Biden Official – Source Claims Vote Comes in Just Days

While many Republicans continue to question President Joe Biden’s cognitive capabilities as President, and some keep pushing for impeachment, other top officials are now in the GOP crosshairs.

For example, there’s Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas — he’s been in the right-wing doghouse ever since the border crisis erupted shortly after Biden entered office in 2021. Statistics during the course of that year showed alarmingly rising levels of encounters and arrests.

Now, led by controversial firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Republicans are looking to implement a “privileged resolution.” This could lead to a surprise removal of one of Washington’s most powerful officials.

From Fox News:
Fox is told to expect a straight up or down vote on a privileged resolution to impeach Mayorkas, which Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., introduced Thursday morning.

The source suggested it would be unlikely a motion to table or set the measure aside is introduced. Such a vote could serve as a fig leaf to protect members who make a lot of noise about impeaching Mayorkas but may be unwilling to vote on the record.

This way, Mayorkas could actually be removed from his position without a hearing or a committee markup. This wouldn’t be necessarily unprecedented, but many would say it’s an unorthodox way of getting the job done.

However, it’s important to note that this wouldn’t automatically translate to a Senate trial. Even so, the Senate would still have to receive the articles of impeachment from the House, and some action would have to be taken. It’s a significant break with the standard process and status quo on Capitol Hill, but the GOP wants results.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) stopped an effort by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) to impeach Biden, and that went by the book (something McCarthy often advocated). But currently, everything that normally goes along with an impeachment hasn’t happened with Mayorkas, so it appears Republicans are turning to new tactics.

Of course, the House could simply reject any effort to remove Mayorkas, which would be a definite blow to the GOP. Even then, though, it’s unlikely right-wing politicians will stop trying to go after the border boss, as many still accuse him of simply failing on a massive level to protect the U.S.
