For years, right-wing lawmakers and politicians have pushed back against Democrat “cancel culture.”
This has led to a widening divide between the two parties, as they continually accuse each other of being bigoted and intolerant.
But one California GOP member has had enough of the leftist agenda.
Republican Sen. Melissa Melendez is going after the “progressive” ideologies, despite immediate backlash from Democrats in her state.
She has introduced a new piece of legislation, which she says is specifically designed to promote equality and diversity.
From Fox News:e
…her ‘Diversity of Thought Act’ would protect people from discrimination over politics when seeking housing, bank loans, or employment by amending the Fair Employment and Housing Act.
The Act bars discrimination against race, religion, sexual orientation and other factors.
Melendez, a U.S. Navy veteran, also made it clear that this isn’t about “protecting Republicans.”
Instead, it’s about re-embracing true equality in all aspects of society, something she believes we’ve lost in recent years.
On top of that, she cited one specific instance: members of the Trump administration unfairly harassed:
With President Trump being elected we’ve seen members of Congress advocating for members of the Trump administration to be harassed and targeted.
It’s permeating every aspect of our lives, so I felt that putting political affiliation in California’s fair employment and housing act was appropriate.
Melendez also introduced a second bill, which would protect students from being bullied for their political views.
“Cancel culture” certainly plays a role in education as well, which is precisely what this bill aims to stop.
Of course, Democrats are already saying Melendez’s goals are the opposite of equality, and are calling them “racist, xenophobic, and misogynistic.”
Personally, I have difficulty finding evidence of any of that in the official wording of those bills.
But then again, it seems like both sides can always find ways to fight with each other these days.
