Red State Passes Historic Rights Bill – And Our Kids Just Got Safer Overnight

Numerous battles have been fought over American schools in recent years. Republican-led states have passed laws to shut down left-wing schemes affecting our students. Red states have banned discussion of gender ideology in public schools.

They have also created school choice programs that reward good schools and penalize failing schools.

One red state was recently rocked by a horrible tragedy. Democrats have since fought to push laws that might make schools even less safe. But the state Senate just scored a major win for teachers. And this could save countless lives.

From The Post Millennial:
The Tennessee state Senate has passed a bill that would give teachers and staff in public schools across the state the ability to carry concealed firearms in their classrooms, provided they pass a rigorous background check and complete a training regimen…

Under the terms of the legislation, educators and other school staff hoping to carry a concealed firearm to work would have to acquire “the joint written authorization of the [Local Education Agency]’s director of schools in conjunction with the principal of the school at which the person is assigned.”

Tennessee’s state Senate just passed a law that will allow teachers to carry firearms in classrooms. The bill will require teachers to pass a background check and complete a training regimen.

This comes one year after a shooter killed many students and teachers at Covenant School, in Green Hills, Tennessee. Since that event, Republicans have been fighting to ensure schools are equipped against future attempted shootings.

Democrats, on the other hand, have fought and staged protests to further erode gun rights for Tennessee residents. Democrats frequently push strict gun control after a shooting, claiming that the only way to end gun violence is by preventing citizens from owning firearms.

This new bill follows similar measures in Florida and other red states. It is becoming increasingly popular to arm teachers as a deterrent against mass shootings. Experts have often said that would-be shooters pick their targets based on whether or not their victims are armed.

This bill will become law, should Tennessee’s House pass its version of the bill and it is signed by the governor.

Key Takeaways:

  • Tennessee’s Senate passed a law that will allow teachers to carry firearms.
  • The law will require a rigorous background check and training.
  • This comes one year after the Covenant School shooting.
