Ever since President Donald Trump’s stirring victory over Hillary Clinton, there has been rampant speculation about who will be stepping up to the plate to face off with him in 2020.

Early signs point to an incredibly crowded field on the Democratic side when it comes time for the primary season, as just about every Leftist darling with a modicum of name recognition has been mentioned as a possible contender.

Part of the reason that the field is going to be so packed is that the Democratic Party lacks a coherent message and a clear path forward. Since their base goes from a range of union loyalists to protesting snowflakes, which one of their candidates is even able to cater to every single constituent demand?

As such, they may decide that old is new yet again. And if they do try to stay with the old line-up of candidates, one particular blast from the past that may be gearing up for a run has already vowed to be ‘unconventional,’ whatever that means. Perhaps an attempt to sound new to appeal to the younger masses?

Former Vice President Joe Biden is moving closer to a 2020 run for president, with close aides telling Politico that they are preparing for a number of scenarios ahead of a possible campaign announcement.

Politico reports that a close circle of Biden aides is preparing for several 2020 scenarios, including Biden announcing his candidacy early enough to set the field of challengers around him or late enough to skip the first two contests in Iowa and New Hampshire. Another option could reportedly be running on the promise of a one-term presidency

The former vice president is “thinking through a million unconventional options, because there is an acknowledgment that this could be an unconventional campaign,” one person close to the discussions said.

Should he run, Biden brings a number of positives to the table for the Democrats. He’s got the name recognition, he’s likable, and he’s a pretty good public speaker after so many years in the public eye.

However, that’s about as far as it goes. Once one examines what Biden really has to say for himself, it’s tough not to walk away with a sense that we’ve been here before.

He talks a great game, but that’s not going to translate into policies that actually work for America. We need to look no further than the eight long years that he served as vice president for confirmation.

However, Biden continues to play coy about his actual motivations for 2020.

There’s plenty of signs that he’s seriously mulling it over, but he also insists on downplaying his interest while insinuating that he’ll step up to the plate if his country needs him.

Thankfully, the country is doing just fine without him.
