The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has been the subject of speculation and commentary for years. He is enemy number one to many people around the world. But despite rampant hatred for the man, he is seemingly untouchable.
Rumors have spread in recent years, however, about his health. Putin is 71 years old. Some stories have claimed he is suffering from terminal cancer and has undergone treatment. Others suggest he is mentally unstable, pointing to his aggressive and reckless decisions.
Now, a new story is circulating major global news outlets. If this turns out to be true, all of Russia–and parts of Europe–might be flipped on its head.
From Sky News:
Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest following months of speculation over his health.
General SVR, an organisation claiming to have classified intel on Kremlin activities from retired and active intelligence officers, shared its allegations to social media…
The insider group said Putin was found lying on the floor of his bedroom next to overturned food and drinks about 9.05pm on Sunday.
According to reports by a group called General SVR, President Putin suffered a heart attack at his home. The story claims he was found lying on the floor of his bedroom at 9:05 PM last Sunday. He reportedly received medical treatment. His current status is unknown.
Numerous outlets including The Mirror, The Express, and GB News reported the story. But others have expressed skepticism. The Kremlin is notoriously silent about Putin’s health. It is unlikely that this story will be confirmed by official channels.
General SVR made the claim but failed to present evidence to back it. The group did not provide sources or documentation to strengthen its credibility.
But many around the globe will believe this story, as claims about Putin’s health pile up. Some have speculated that it is his declining physical and mental health that is pushing Putin to take dramatic risks, like attacking Ukraine.
Others believe Putin is unstable and is dragging down all of Russia with him.
Most video and photographic footage does not portray Putin to be frail or suffering any serious ailments. If he is hiding an illness, however, he won’t be able to keep it a secret forever.
