But progressives are trying to spread these policies to red states. So, Americans are taking steps to ensure criminals will no longer have free rein.

A Harvard/Harris poll conducted November 15-16, 2023, shows six in ten voters believe owning a gun is a necessary part of protecting themselves from criminals.

Researchers asked, “Do you think you need to have a gun today in case you are attacked by criminals, or do you think owning a gun is unnecessary?”

A majority of voters across the board–whether Democrat, Republican, or independent–answered in the affirmative.

Sixty percent of Americans polled said they believe owning a gun is “necessary” to protect themselves from crime. This includes voters from across the political spectrum. Fifty-four percent of Democrats agreed, 77% of Republicans agreed, and 56% of independents agreed.

The same poll revealed that 42% of those asked believed crime was getting worse in their community. Only 21% said they thought it was getting better.

Critics have accused progressive local leaders of the explosion in crime. District attorneys (some funded by George Soros) have refused to prosecute a wide variety of crimes. Others have removed penalties for crimes like vandalism and shoplifting.

In many blue states, legalized drugs have led to massive spikes in homelessness. With that comes a regular stream of crime.

When those tasked with enforcing the law refuse to do their jobs, citizens are left with few options. Many have pointed out Americans feel the need to arm themselves because the government is failing to defend them from criminals.

It remains to be seen how citizens in blue states will be able to exercise their Second Amendment rights. Many blue states have such severe gun control restrictions, that some Americans are unable to even buy a firearm. Other states make it illegal to carry your gun outside the home.

It is possible that this concern for safety will result in how voters pick their leaders in the next election. Already, we’ve seen Democrat voters recall district attorneys whom they blamed for the increase in crime. If enough Americans want to embrace their Second Amendment rights, they might vote for candidates who will roll back restrictions.
