Pete Buttigieg’s Career Might Be Over – GOP’s New Move Sends Him Reeling

What’s Happening:

America was stunned when Joe Biden appointed embattled former mayor Peter Buttigieg to run the Department of Transportation. And critics have not been kind to his tenure in that position.

Buttigieg was apparently MIA during times of crisis. He was out when ships were unable to dock. Again, he was missing when train workers threatened to strike, shutting down our economy.

Republicans have blasted his spending on trips. And they have called out his failure to address the devastating derailment in East Palestine. Now, House Republicans could have ended Buttigieg’s White House career.

From Fox News:
The House approved a measure late Tuesday that would slash Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s taxpayer-funded government salary to just $1.

The bill — which was introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. — was passed via voice vote Tuesday as an amendment to the 2024 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act, the standalone funding bill for the General Services Administration, Securities and Exchange Commission and other related agencies.

Republicans in the House passed a measure to cut Pete Buttigieg’s salary to just $1. Republicans have been threatening to slash the Biden administration’s budget during rounds of spending debate.

They have talked about defunding the IRS and Kamala Harris’s office, along with other drastic measures. But they have successfully passed an amendment that would reduce Buttigieg’s pay to next to nothing.

It’s unclear if this measure will actually pass. It would require approval by the Senate and then signed into law by the president.

But this is yet another sign that the new House Speaker, Mike Johnson, is not playing games with Democrats. He is allowing hardliner Republicans like MTG to move forward with some of their most aggressive measures.

The Senate has threatened to reject many of the bills passed by this House. But unless they want to keep the government funded, they will have to work with the House to get anything done. And Johnson does not seem to be as flexible as former Speaker McCarthy, who was accused of bending to Democrats too often.

Republicans repeatedly blasted Buttigieg for failing to lead the DOT. Some have suggested it was a vanity post, to reward Buttigieg for dropping out of the 2020 race. There could be a shred of truth to that claim, given how poorly he has performed within the agency.

Key Takeaways:

  • House Republicans slash Pete Buttigieg’s salary to $1.
  • This comes after many accusations that the DOT head has failed at his job.
  • New House Speaker Johnson is challenging Biden’s radical budget demands.
