North Korea’s Game-Changing Announcement Sends Shock Waves Through Washington

For weeks, the world has been reeling over the announcement that dictator Kim Jong Un will meet with President Trump. This historic meeting is completely unprecedented. And it just got more amazing.

For years, the United States has blundered over North Korea. Past Presidents have not dealt with the country properly. Because of that, North Korea has worked on getting nuclear weapons unchecked. No amount of sanctions has stopped them.

Since President Trump took office, things have changed. Big surprise, right? Kim Jong Un has made threats against the U.S. and our allies. How has Trump responded? By promising North Korea fire and fury. Finally, we have a President who knows how to confront a bully.

North Korea responded by backing down. They just met with South Korean and Chinese leaders to discuss peace treaties. Kim Jong Un himself will meet with President Trump. Just weeks before the historic meeting, Kim Jong announced his country will give up their nukes.

From Reuters:

North Korea has told the United States for the first time that it is prepared to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula when North Korean leader Kim Jong Un meets President Donald Trump, a U.S. official said on Sunday.

U.S. and North Korean officials have held secret contacts recently in which Pyongyang directly confirmed its willingness to hold the unprecedented summit, the official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity…

The U.S. official declined to say exactly when the U.S.-North Korea communications had taken place but said the two sides had held multiple direct contacts.

“The U.S. has confirmed that Kim Jong Un is willing to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula‎,” said a second U.S. official.

I don’t know if I can impress on you how huge this is. North Korea has been our enemy since the 1950’s. Their dictators have promised to destroy us time and again. Under past Presidents (especially Obama) it’s only gotten worse. North Korea has only sped up its nuclear program.

Not even two years have gone by of Trump’s presidency and Kim Jong Un is willing to meet. Now he’s saying he wants to end his nuclear program. That’s big.

Of course, naysayers are doubting the dictator. Sure. He’s a dictator, after all. We can’t trust his word at face value. Until treaties are signed and accountability is put into place, this is all talk. But considering this is the same man who, just months ago, promised to destroy us, this is a big step forward.

A step no other President has been able to achieve.

Will this deal put Trump on the level of Ronald Reagan? President Reagan was able to do the impossible (in his second term) by ending the Cold War and bringing down the USSR. In his first term, Trump is poised to end decades-long hostility with another Communist nation. This is bigger than big.

The meeting between Trump and Kim Jong will occur this May. We’ll just have to wait and see.
