Many Americans—especially those who run corporations and sports leagues—have been unwilling to stand up to “cancel culture.”
But one NFL legend is fighting back.
Some business owners think that they can be saved if they bow to a radical, America-hating mob.
But time and again, it’s only backfired.
Mike Ditka, famed football coach, doesn’t care what people think. When asked about kneeling in recent games, he told the report—point blank—what he thinks:
“If you can’t respect our national anthem, get the hell out of the country.”
“That’s the way I feel. Of course, I’m old fashioned, so I’m only going to say what I feel. I think there’s a way you protest and a way you don’t protest. You don’t protest against the flag and you don’t protest against this country who’s given you the opportunity to make a living playing a sport that you never thought would happen.”
Ditka, who is the chairman of a female tackle football X League, told reporters that he is in no way a supporter of kneeling during the Anthem.
He criticized the recent return of the MLB, where many players knelt during the National Anthem.
One wonders if they’d be doing it if the stadiums were packed with patriotic fans?
Ditka told any player that refuses to stand for the flag to “get the hell out of the country.”
He shared what many Americans believe, that athletes are able to make a living playing a sport. Yet they insult the very country that enables them to do so.
He says he’s “old fashion.” But millions of Americans appear to share his sentiment.
The NFL in particular has suffered in recent years, thanks to the Anthem protests. As the “trend” reached other sports, those leagues have suffered too.
As a result of the lockdowns, most major sports have lost billions. MLB recently returned to play a shortened season with no fans in the stadiums.
They might not be able to recover what they lost. Not because of COVID, but because they are going full-steam ahead with social justice politics.
Perhaps Americans will turn out these games because the leagues refuse to rein in privileged athletes.
At a time when sports should be doing everything to win back fans, they drive them away.
