Despite what Democrats say, they are terrified of Donald Trump. They know he has a good chance of getting the GOP nomination–and winning the 2024 Election. So, they continue to push various plots to undermine his chances–including a federal investigation into January 6th.
It seems they think they can get Mike Pence to turn on his old boss. After all, Pence refused to overturn the results of the election, voting to certify them on that fateful day. The DOJ subpoenaed Pence, demanding he show up and testify. But the former vice president just hammered back.

The former vice president’s allies told Politico he’s protected by a constitutional provision called the “speech and debate clause,” which generally shields members of Congress from having to fear that anything they say during legislative activities will implicate them in a lawsuit.
For years, we’ve seen Democrats trample government and constitutional norms to get their way. They sent an FBI team to raid Trump’s home over paperwork, something that we’ve never seen before. Democrats impeached Trump a second time, without even an investigation.
They tried to force Trump to testify, despite his executive privilege. They are trying to pin him for improperly handling classified material, despite his authority as president to declassify those documents.
Now, Democrats are trying to force Mike Pence to testify, even though he is protected by federal law. As the president of the Senate, he is protected by a “speech and debate clause” that shields lawmakers from lawsuits.
Without this protection, anything a lawmaker might say while in Congress could be used as grounds for legal action. Lawmakers would struggle to simply debate a law, let alone do anything else.
Democrats know this, but they don’t seem to care. They are trying to abuse the power of the DOJ to get their way. They think they can force Mike Pence to say something before the grand jury they can use to hammer Trump.
But Pence is not playing their game. Be sure, they will push back with all the power they have. But this thing will be taken to the courts for sure.
