McCarthy Just Confronted Biden with Powerful Bill – The Speaker Demands the National Emergency Must End Now

For many Americans, the pandemic is over. While most federal and state guidelines have been relaxed, though, some still remain.

And as far as the federal government is concerned, it’s not over just yet. President Joe Biden announced he’ll end the emergency in May.

But House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) says that isn’t good enough.

Biden revealed this week that he’ll stop extending the COVID-19 national emergency on May 11. That’s barring any unforeseen issues, of course.

But Republican leaders, who have accused the current administration of needlessly dragging this on, aren’t happy with the date.

McCarthy has introduced a bill that would put a stop to the emergency declaration — now.

As he stated during a recent interview (Via The Daily Wire):

We’re putting a bill on the floor to end this pandemic. Do you realize that 47 percent of the federal employees are still not in for work?

When we took the majority and I became speaker, one of my first actions was make members of Congress to come back to work.

For the first time in history, members of Congress didn’t have to show up, and they kept getting paid.

It may come as a shock to struggling citizens that nearly half of Congress hasn’t been showing up for work for nearly 3 years, and they’re still getting paid.

Obviously, the Congress members will argue they were working remotely. But that won’t be viewed as the same thing.

McCarthy added that “people have to show a work ethic.”

The proposed bill brings federal employees back to work, so they can effectively provide the service “taxpayers are paying them for.”

The Biden administration has continued to extend the emergency declaration over the years, despite pushback from GOP leaders and some medical experts.

At the same time, it was still a requirement for federal employees to be vaccinated.

Numerous lawsuits have since popped up around the country, where federal workers are suing because that mandate ignored their individual and religious rights.

For the time being, we’ll have to wait and see if McCarthy’s bill passes.

Key Takeaways:

  • House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has a new bill that ends the national pandemic emergency now.
  • This defies President Joe Biden’s announcement that he’ll end it on May 11.
  • McCarthy stated that nearly half of Congress members still aren’t physically showing up to work.
