Jack Smith Wants to Resign Before Trump Can Fire Him – Frantically Ending His Cases

Donald Trump sent shockwaves through the Washington swamp last week when he handily defeated Kamala Harris in the presidential race. Heading into Election Day, Democrats seemingly thought that there was no way that Harris could lose to Trump.

Instead, not only did Trump defeat Harris with the Electoral College, he also won the popular vote. In the wake of this, many prominent figures who have spent years trying to take Trump down have gone into panic mode.

One of these people is Justice Department Special Counsel Jack Smith. New reports have indicated that Smith has launched a cowardly plan to stop Trump from getting the chance to personally fire him.

From Fox News:
Justice Department Special Counsel Jack Smith is expected to resign before President-elect Trump is inaugurated in January, the New York Times reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. Smith is aiming to bring to an end his cases against Trump and step down before the new president takes office as a way to get ahead of the Republican’s promise to fire him “within two seconds.”

Trump has pointed to a Supreme Court immunity ruling from this summer that broadened the criteria for official presidential conduct ineligible for prosecution even after a president is no longer in office.

Smith has been evaluating how to wind down both the 2020 election interference case and the separate classified documents case before Trump takes office, Fox News reported last week. Longstanding Justice Department policy says sitting presidents cannot be prosecuted while in office.

Smith Is A Spineless Coward

It should really come as no surprise that Smith is a spineless coward. After spending years relentlessly attacking Trump, he’s trying to flee with his tail between his legs before he actually has to face the incoming president.

On Friday, three days after the election, Smith filed a motion to vacate all deadlines in the 2020 election interference case against Trump. He later added that he plans to give an updated report on the official status of the case against Trump on December 2.

Even though the case never went to trial, Department of Justice regulations dictate that Smith must submit a report of his findings. He must also send in an explanation of the charges the prosecutor considered and ultimately filed.

That should be a fascinating read! Indeed, it will be interesting to see how Smith tries to justify the shameless witch hunt against Trump that he’s been leading for years.

Smith later said that he needs a month “to assess this unprecedented circumstance and determine the appropriate course going forward consistent with Department of Justice policy.”

The House Judiciary Committee is already afraid that Smith and his team will “purge” records in a pathetic attempt to skirt oversight.

We certainly wouldn’t put that past them!

That’s why the committee is demanding that Smith’s team produce to Congress all documents related to the probes before November comes to an end.

What Smith has done to Trump for years is about as low as it gets. While we’re glad that the days of Smith being able to target Trump in this way are coming to an end, none of this should have been happening in the first place.

Key Takeaways:

  • Smith wants to resign before Trump can fire him.
  • That’s why he’s frantically trying to finish his cases against Trump.
  • House Judiciary Committee is afraid Smith will “purge” records to avoid oversight.
