An Illinois judge takes serious issue with Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker’s latest lockdown order.
Clay County judge Michael McHaney ripped Pritzer’s stay-at-home rule, which he issued over the weekend.
McHaney didn’t hold back in his criticism, calling the new order “insanity” and “completely devoid of anything approaching common sense.”
It also isn’t the first time McHaney has stood up against Pritzker’s lockdown edict. As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times:
[McHaney] has already issued one ruling exempting a Republican state lawmaker from the governor’s lockdown orders, again issued a ruling granting a temporary restraining order, this time to James Mainer, an Iraq War veteran, and his business, HCL Deluxe Tan LLC, exempting Mainer and his business from the stay-at-home order.
McHaney attacked Pritzker’s ruling here as well, citing inconsistencies — for example, allowing marijuana dispensaries and Wal-Marts to remain open, but not small businesses or religious institutions.
Why It’s Important:
The political and legal clash continues in many parts of America, and this is another example of lawmakers squaring off.
McHaney claims Governor Pritzker has abused his authority, along with his emergency powers. Pointedly, McHaney said:
Americans don’t get ruled.
He then cited a long list of inequalities relating to the lockdown:
This included the option for residents to get an abortion, as well as shutting down youth programs, despite evidence that says sunlight kills the virus.
A family of six can pile in their car and drive to Carlyle Lake without contracting COVID but, if they all get in the same boat, they will.
If I go to Walmart, I won’t get COVID but, if I go to church, I will.
Murderers are released from custody while small business owners are threatened with arrest if they have the audacity to attempt to feed their families.
Finally, the outspoken judge called out the Governor for essentially breaking his own orders.
Pritzker allowed his family members to travel to Florida and Wisconsin during the lockdown period, while telling Illinois residents to stay home.
And with a “98 percent-plus survival rate,” McHaney doesn’t believe there was any reason to shut down the state economy.
