When we learned the extent of the damage to East Palestine, Joe Biden was already jetting off to Ukraine. The first notable figure to visit the battered Ohio town was… you guessed it, Donald Trump. The former president donated supplies and offered hope to the townspeople. They need it. Thanks to the failed Biden administration, many of them won’t be going home for a long while.
A full day after Trump’s visit, the head of the Department of Transportation finally arrived. Pete Buttigieg should have been there on day one. This is literally his job. But the man ignored the crisis for ten days. And after three weeks, finally decided to visit. The political appointee and former, failed mayor did little to help. And when reporters showed up, he gets even more useless.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg visited East Palestine, Ohio, on Thursday, nearly three weeks after the fiery train derailment and subsequent release of toxic chemicals, but his press secretary refused to answer key questions from reporters because of the presence of cameras.
Huh. Pete was there long enough to post a few pictures to his social media accounts. Then he was off. When reporters showed up to ask him legitimate questions, he refused. Even his press secretary didn’t want to talk.
What kind of coward shows up to a disaster, hiding behind his press secretary? Donald Trump met with people and shook their hands. Hell, he even bought McDonald’s for everyone. Pete did nothing. He vowed the USDOT would “continue its work.”
But I guess that doesn’t include the head of the USDOT. Pete is supposed to be in charge of this agency. But he seems to think this is just a nice comfy gig. On more than one occasion, he was on vacation when crises hammered his agency.
He failed to address the supply chain crisis, as ships were stuck in the ocean. He was MIA during the rail workers’ battle when we were on the verge of a crippling strike. He was powerless when our airlines were shut down not once, but three times. And he ignored a devastating derailment for weeks.
The man, by all appearances, is useless. Just a political flunky who is trying to climb the ladder of the federal government. But the crisis at East Palestine has opened America’s eyes. Pete Buttigieg is no leader. He does not care about anyone but himself.
If he thinks he has a future career in politics, he is dreaming.
