What’s Happening:
Patriots, I’m going to shoot straight with you on this one: Lord of the Rings is the greatest movie trilogy of all time.
The themes, the acting, the cinematography, the New Zealand landscapes—it’s all pitch-perfect and somehow Peter Jackson does J.R.R. Tolkien justice.
It holds up after 20 years with beautiful music and an impressive combination of set pieces, miniatures and CGI. It was the biggest gamble in cinema, and it paid off with 11 Academy Awards for Return of the King.
So why would anyone mess with it? From The Daily Wire:
“Lord of the Rings” fans are less than thrilled about the Thursday announcement from Warner Bros. that indicates the company plans to make more films based on the franchise.
Warner Bros. Pictures announced Thursday that they signed a multi-year agreement with Swedish media company Embracer Group to revisit Tolkien’s work. Director Peter Jackson was behind the “Lord of the Rings” film trilogy in the early 2000s and is apparently part of the new deal as well.
Unbelievably, Jackson is actually attached to this new deal. Everyone has their opinion of how he handled the subsequent Hobbit trilogy, but the consensus is: he pretty much botched it.
So leave it alone, people! Let the Rings of Power hack the Second Age of Tolkien’s work to pieces, but don’t touch a story that has become a core part of the Gen-X and Millenial generations!
The outcry on social media is everywhere. From Twitter:

Much more has been said, but that about puts it perfectly. Hollywood is greedy beyond all things. They’re never satisfied with making good art. They want it to keep generating more money to line their pockets. Only occasionally do we get films that are really works of art and don’t cater to the latest woke mob.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy was one of those masterpieces. Hear us loud and clear, Hollywood: we don’t need some made-up backstory on Legolas. We don’t need another Dwarf-Elf romance.
And we sure as heck don’t need woke ideology written into the good, the true, and the beautiful that is Tolkien’s world.
You’ve already tried to wade back into Tolkien’s world twice, and by many estimations you’re failed. Do it again, and don’t expect to make back your budget. The fans will abandon you and continue their annual rewatch of the perfect Tolkien masterpiece.
