Gov Newsom Announces Feinstein Replacement – And It’s Worse Than Anyone Expected

What’s Happening:

Soon after news spread that Sen. Feinstein passed, people started asking about her replacement. According to federal law, a state governor has the power to fill a vacant senate seat. On the very day Feinstein died, the Democrat governor of her state was talking about replacing her.

Gov. Newsom had previously vowed to put a woman of color in that Senate seat. Some suspected he’d select Barbara Lee, who is currently running in the primaries for the seat.

This week, the governor has officially announced his replacement. And she is not remotely a moderate.

From The Post Millennial:
California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom has chosen Laphonza Butler, the President of EMILY’s List – a pro-abortion organization, to fill the vacancy left by the late Senator Dianne Feinstein…

Infamous state senator Scott Wiener, who is known for posing in bondage gear and promoting child sex changes, praised the pick, tweeting “Laphonza Butler is an exceptionally talented leader & a strong pick by Gavin Newsom…”

Just two days after Dianne Feinstein passed, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced her replacement. The quick decision was most likely influenced by Democrat urgency within the Senate. Losing one vote could jeopardize the Democrats’ agenda, given their very slim majority.

Newsom selected Laphonza Butler, a Maryland-based abortion activist, to replace Feinstein. This selection upholds his promise to put a black woman on the Senate. But it is unclear what qualifications, if any, this woman has.

Butler was criticized online for her abortion advocacy. She was also quoted for questioning the integrity of past elections, claiming voting machines weren’t logging ballots. Butler is registered to vote in Maryland, something critics were quick to point out.

It does not seem as if Butler has held any high offices before, making her selection even more suspect.

It appears the internal politics of the party will prevent Butler from running for re-election in 2024. Which seems to suggest she will only serve in the Senate to cast votes for Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden’s agenda–and then return to her activism.

Three Democrats from California are currently running for Feinstein’s former seat. Gov. Newsom did not select any of them. Butler is unlikely to run for a full term, leaving the seat in question for 2024.

Key Takeaways:

  • Gavin Newsom announced his replacement for the late Sen. Feinstein.
  • Newsom has appointed Laphonza Butler, a Maryland-based abortion activist.
  • Butler is president of EMILY’s List, a radical abortion organization.
