In recent years, a few Republican governors have sounded the alarm over a scheme being perpetrated by China and other nations. Some states have passed laws to protect the United States. Others, like South Dakota, were unable to do so, thanks to lobbyists working for these foreign powers.
But the threat continues to grow. And if nothing is done, the very ground under our feet could be taken from us.
Now, House Republicans are moving against this plot. And they just introduced a bill that might freeze communist China in its tracks. But will it eventually become law?
From Fox News:
House Republicans unveiled legislation that would prohibit Chinese, Russian, North Korean and Iranian nationals from purchasing public or private real estate in the U.S.The American Land and Property Protection Act, introduced by Rep. Mark Alford, R-Mo., and cosponsored by seven fellow House Republicans, orders the president to take action prohibiting nonresidents, businesses, agents, trustees or fiduciaries associated with the governments of China, Russia, North Korea and Iran from purchasing U.S. land.
House Republicans introduced a bill that will prevent hostile nations from buying land in the United States. This bill would also ban people, businesses, and other entities associated with China, Russia, North Korea, or Iran from buying U.S. land.
In recent years, China has been aggressively buying land in the United States. It is buying more and more farmland, raising concerns that it is trying to deprive the U.S. of its source of food. Already, China has taken manufacturing jobs from Americans. Now, is it trying to take the food literally off our tables?
But more concerning is the fact that much of the land China has bought for “farming” is unsuitable for growing crops. The land is, however, dangerously close to U.S. military bases.
States like Virginia and Florida have taken steps to prevent China from buying American land. But Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota was unable to pass a similar bill, because lobbyists within the agricultural industry manipulated Republican lawmakers.
If nothing is done, we could see a future where much of our American soil is owned by a communist dictatorship. Joe Biden might not mind that, being in bed with China. But perhaps most Americans don’t love the idea of all our farms being owned by a hostile nation.
It’s unclear if this bill has a chance of becoming law. Perhaps not until a Republican majority takes over D.C.
Key Takeaways:
- House Republicans introduced a bill to ban China and other nations from buying American land.
- This comes as the communist nation buys large acres of land for “farming.”
- Critics fear China is buying land close to military bases, to spy on U.S. forces.
