Long before Joe Biden implements his nationwide mandate, Democrat-run states have been pushing their own. It has not worked out well for them. In New York, healthcare workers have been forced to choose between their jobs and blindly obeying the government.
It has resulted in thousands of healthcare workers quitting, triggering a medical care crisis in the state. Some have opted to take this mandate to court, demanding there be an exemption over religious grounds. Democrats said no, but a federal judge had a different opinion.
From Daily Caller:
A federal judge ruled Tuesday that New York state must recognize healthcare workers’ religious exemptions to the state’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, according to court documents.
U.S. District Judge David Hurd ruled on Tuesday that the mandate conflicts with “individuals’ federally protected right to seek a religious accommodation from their individual employers,” granting a preliminary injunction to the plaintiffs, according to court documents.
A group of healthcare workers sued New York State over its heavy mandate. A federal judge just ruled the state has to acknowledge religious exemptions, paving the way for residents to avoid this strict new rule.
On top of that, the judge forbade the New York State Department of Health from interfering with any religious exemptions. This is a major win for Americans and their religious rights. It preserves their constitutional freedoms, over groups (like businesses and government agencies) that would seek to rob them.
The governor wrongly claimed that there were no “legitimate” religious reasons to resist her mandate. Odd, I didn’t know a Democrat politician was suddenly an expert in world religions? She even proudly boasted that the court would rule in her favor.
Ouch, that’s embarrassing.
This is surely not the last court battle over related government and business mandates. Many on the left claim the only way to get past the current crisis is by forcing Americans to receive a procedure, even against their own beliefs.
Expect to hear about more court battles, coming from other states. This could even reach the Supreme Court soon.
