What’s Happening:

Part of the playbook from any terrorist organization is stating misinformation to promote their narrative and gain empathy for their actions. Government agencies around the world tend to default to anything stated by terrorist group leaders as questionable.

This leads to an exposed problem among so-called journalists today who will accept the words of terrorists because these supposedly impartial media members want to sway people to their way of thinking. The good news about this 24-7, always-connected world is that suspicions among the public are triggered when suspect journalists present questionable “facts.”

The Washington Post’s resident fact-checker was treated to a virtual earful over his Wednesday piece claiming that the Hamas-controlled health ministry in Gaza had a “good track record” when it came to accurately reporting death tolls.

Fact-checker Glenn Kessler’s promotion of trust for Hamas was contradicted all the way up to President Joe Biden who has said he has “no confidence” in tallies being reported by any entity controlled by Hamas terrorists.

Kessler appeared to argue with people fact-checking him with his social media post stating that the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry “has a good track record on reporting death tolls.”

That was directly opposite of Biden who had earlier stated, “I have no notion that the Palestinians are telling the truth about how many people are killed.”

Kessler’s claims were quickly denounced by critics across social media. Some hit directly at the legitimacy of Hamas’ claims and the lack of questioning of those claims by the Washington Post.

“What on earth is happening at WaPo where they think terrorists are reliable sources,” Steve Guest posted on X, formerly Twitter. “I’m happy to assist in fighting back against this insane fact check.”

Noah Rothman chimed in and pointed out that Hamas announced casualty figures after an explosion near a hospital just 27 seconds after Israeli strikes in the area. How can anyone count casualties in 27 seconds? Rothman also noted that the United Nations had announced that Hamas had stolen a shipment of fuel in Gaza but quickly deleted the announcement.

Rothman asserted that the U.N. operates in Gaza only “with the understanding that Hamas exerts editorial control over it.” How then can “facts” being announced in Hamas-controlled territory be accepted without question?

Social media tags also laughingly mocked the fact-checker at the Washington Post.

“FACT CHECK: Alderaan Death Toll Greatly Exaggerated, Says Generally Reliable & Unbiased Galactic Empire Health Ministry,” Dan McLaughlin said.

Another added, “Democracy dies in useful idiocy.”

Why these media fact-checkers still believe no one will question their accuracy is baffling. In any wartime scenario information is fluid until the details are sorted out as fact.
