It is no secret that many people have turned on Elon Musk, after he bought Twitter. Most of them appear to be liberals, who are outraged that Musk supports free speech online.
Democrats were triggered to no end, it seems, after Musk relied on the result of a poll to restore Donald Trump’s account.
Recently, someone asked Musk what he thought about another controversial figure; this person was banned after someone else uploaded a video of him. Now, Musk is considering bringing back his account, pending the community’s response.
From The Post Millennial:
On Thursday, Elon Musk announced that he is considering reinstating right-wing commentator Alex Jones’s account on X, saying that he would hold a poll on the matter. This has been a frequent tool Musk has used to make decisions regarding the platform.
In a move that will spark perhaps greater outrage than Trump’s restoration, Musk suggested he’d bring back Alex Jones’s account. This came on the same day Jones appeared on Tucker Carlon’s exclusive X show.
Musk explained that he thinks permanent bans should be “extremely rare.” And he promised that the website’s fact-checking system, called Community Notes, will be able to correct anything Jones says that is untrue.
Community Notes has improved significantly since Musk took over. It appears to be one of the most effective tools for refuting misinformation that was previously ignored by the social network (especially false statements spread by liberal users).
Musk said, “Let’s hold a poll.” But it’s unclear if he will post a literal poll to his millions of followers or rather gauge the reaction to his statement in the comments below it. If the comments are any indication, many users want Alex Jones back on the website, simply to strike a blow against censorship.
Alex Jones was permanently banned after another account posted a video of him insulting a CNN reporter outside a congressional hearing. This came around the same time other social networks, as well as tech companies like Apple and Google, started to ban the commentator from their services.
It is likely that liberal users will react poorly to the use that Jones is reinstated, as many leftists have attacked Elon Musk over his decisions in recent weeks. Some large, “woke” companies have pulled ads from X, over questionable claims that Musk allowed anti-Semitism on the website.
It is unknown how corporations will react if Jones is brought back.
Key Takeaways:
- Elon Musk suggested restoring Alex Jones’s account to X.
- He stated that permanent bans should be “extremely rare.”
- Jones was banned over a video posted by another account.
