The influx of people crossing the southern U.S. border has grown into a controversial situation that has citizens arguing with each other about what to do. Politicians and even high-profile celebrities have visited the border to assess what is happening and report what often doesn’t filter through the mainstream media.
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk recently visited the Texas town of Eagle Pass on the invitation of Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX) to view first-hand the number of people crossing the border. He learned quickly how surging numbers of people are affecting not just this border town but cities throughout the nation.
Musk streamed video of his border visit on X and commented on the trip as he interacted with border officials facing the surge in their communities. He pointed out that the issue is placing severe pressure on large cities in the U.S.

The Washington Examiner reported that Musk was visibly stunned by the “madness” that has raged at the border. Eagle Pass, a town of 28,000 residents in south-central Texas, has seen as many as 2,500 people arrested daily for coming into the United States illegally over the past few weeks.
Gonzalez told Musk that “zero” people are being sent back after being processed in areas like the one under a bridge in Eagle Pass. They are detained and then sent to another large, temporary tent where as many as 5,000 people are processed at a time.
“Zero?” Musk stated in disbelief. “It’s exceeding the population of the town on a regular basis.”
Musk, an immigrant himself, told city and law enforcement officials that he considers himself “extremely pro-immigrant” and supports expanding the U.S. legal immigration system, including a quick way to legalize immigrants’ status.
Still, Musk was taken aback by the sheer numbers of people coming in and the lack of any measures to send them back to their home countries.
“But then, by the same token, we should also not be allowing people in the country if they look at the regular law, that doesn’t make sense. The law is there for a reason,” Musk said.
