Election Day is nearly upon us. With just a few more days to go, the race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump appears to be closer than ever.
This has been enough to send Democrats into panic mode, as they had assumed that Harris would be trouncing Trump in the race by now. Unfortunately for them, this simply hasn’t happened, and Trump still has a very real shot at winning.
That’s why last Saturday, Democrats pulled out the big guns by bringing in former First Lady Michelle Obama to campaign for Harris in Atlanta. There, Obama accused Trump of “gross incompetence,” “erratic behavior,” and “obvious mental decline.”
So much for “when they go low, we go high,” huh, Michelle?!
Afterwards, Obama learned the hard way from Trump himself that she had made a “big mistake.” While speaking at the Georgia Institute of Technology days after Obama’s speech, Trump unloaded on the former First Lady, claiming that she had been “nasty” to him.
“I always tried to be so nice and respectful,” Trump lamented.
From The Independent:
“Oooooh! She opened up a little bit of a box. She opened up a little bit of something,” said Trump. “She was nasty, whooo.”“Shouldn’t be that way. That was a big mistake she made. With your support on November 5 we will achieve success that no one can imagine.”
Later in Trump’s own speech on Monday, when he brought up Michelle Obama again, some of his supporters began chanting: “Lock her up! Lock her up!” Trump was silent for a few seconds, before admonishing them: “Be nice.”
Democrats Are Getting Desperate
Obama has long claimed that she has no interest in politics. Though she’s clearly a Democrat, she typically focuses the vast majority of her political efforts on convincing people to vote. In most cases, she refrains from speaking out on specific political issues or giving outspoken endorsements of any candidates.
The fact that Obama gave such an intense pro-Harris and anti-Trump speech so close to Election Day shows just how desperate Democrats are becoming. Obama continues to be bafflingly popular among voters, meaning Democrats likely see her as a potential secret weapon to save Harris at the last minute. Indeed, Obama holds an impressive 61 percent favorability rating. This even tops her husband Barack Obama, who has a 59 percent approval rating.
Obama is so beloved that she was floated as a possibility to replace Joe Biden in this race. Though she’s repeatedly said that she has no interest in ever running for office, many felt that Obama would beat anyone in a presidential race.
However, Trump could be right in claiming that Obama made a “big mistake” in launching this tirade against him. Staying out of politics and avoiding below-the-belt attacks on others is likely a huge reason why Obama has remained as popular as she is. After all, it was Obama who famously said “when they go low, we go high” back in 2016.
Clearly, she’s changed her tune in the years since then. There was nothing remotely “high” or classy about Obama’s attack on Trump.
In the end, Obama’s “big mistake” here may have been in showing that she’s just as hateful as her fellow Democrats are. She shouldn’t be surprised if her popularity suffers as a result.
Key Takeaways:
- Michelle Obama launches vile attack on Trump.
- Trump fires back by saying that Obama made a “big mistake.”
