DeSantis Just Delivered on His Big Promise – And He Needed Only Days to Pull It Off

What’s Happening:

Candidates make plenty of promises during election campaigns and often deliver only position statements about topics important to voting Americans. Rarely do candidates seeking an office get to actually do something about a problem or issue.

The 2024 presidential election has had some twists and turns with more to be expected. One recent twist was a candidate taking action on the hottest topic across the world – war in Israel. Many Americans were trapped when the fighting broke out in the Middle East and this candidate stepped and showed leadership like no other candidate.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order on Thursday to rescue trapped Americans in Israel, according to Blaze Media. On Sunday evening he welcomed 270 U.S. citizens back home to the United States.

“There was a devoid of leadership, so we stepped up and led, we’re happy to be able to deliver that,” DeSantis said.

The rescued Americans touched down in Tampa after a successful operation designed to rescue citizens and provide emergency assistance when they arrived home. The 270 citizens were flown from Israel to the United States and included people from Florida, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Among the passengers there were 91 children, plus four dogs.

DeSantis allocated the funding for the rescue mission, dubbed “Operation: Promised Land,” which was coordinated in partnership with Project Dynamo, a Tampa-based non-profit. The organization provides “assistance to those impacted in disaster areas and conflict zones throughout the world where the U.S. government does not have access or a presence.”

Project Dynamo founder Bryan Stern praised DeSantis for his support for the mission.

“Your executive order was a game-changer for us and allowed us to save all these lives,” Stern said. “This is the first time in history at the state level that a state has subsidized an international rescue mission for American citizens.”

There are an estimated 20,000 U.S. citizens in Israel, according to the U.S. State Department. DeSantis has criticized the Biden administration for not acting decisively in helping Americans escape from the war in Israel. The State Department has published a notice that it will help Americans get out of Israel, but not back home. Those rescued also must pay for their travel expenses.

Some U.S. citizens have reported their flights being canceled on them as many as 14 times.

Key Takeaways:

  • DeSantis makes big promise on Thursday and delivers by Sunday.
  • Governor’s executive order creates pathway to save Americans.
  • Flight lands in Florida with 270 Americans glad to be home again.
