What’s Happening:
After his historic re-election in 2022, pundits quickly assumed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would run for president. Many Republicans thought the successful governor would be a better choice to run than Donald Trump, who is currently facing four indictments.
For most of the primaries, DeSantis has been second in polling after Trump. The odds look as if Trump will become the GOP nominee. Some have questioned DeSantis’s future if he fails to get the nomination.
Fox News host Bartiromo asked a question many have been wondering. Will DeSantis consider running as Trump’s vice president? This was his quick response.

Wednesday in Detroit, when asked about his competitors for the nominee, Trump said, “They’re all job candidates. They’ll do anything, secretary of something. They even say VP. I don’t know. Does anybody see any VP in the group? I don’t think so.”Anchor Maria Bartiromo asked, “If President Trump came to you and said let’s partner up, you be my VP would you do it?”
DeSantis said, “No, I’m running for president.”
DeSantis put away any suspicions that he’d run as a vice presidential candidate alongside Trump. He quickly stated no, affirming his intentions of becoming president. This comes after some pundits speculated on a Trump/DeSantis ticket.
Some in early 2023 claimed that if the two Republicans teamed up, it would be a hard ticket for Biden to beat. But it would require both men to put aside their conflict to work. Both Trump and DeSantis have bitterly fought each other in recent years.
Trump has claimed responsibility for DeSantis’s original 2018 victory. He has since been critical of DeSantis’s success in Florida, despite the state’s stability and prosperity. Trump himself left New York to relocate to Florida.
DeSantis hit back at Trump, saying we need somebody who “can serve two terms.” He also suggested Trump cannot win Georgia or Arizona, which some believe are becoming swing states. Trump has long been critical of DeSantis, throwing cruel attacks against him.
A team-up at this point seems unlikely.
