After Dems Try to Pass 1 “Unconstitutional” Law – Republicans Quickly Blast It to Pieces

Since the inception of the United States citizens have held the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. It is a right that is under continuous assault from political radicals who want to rip away this part of the Constitution.

The latest liberal attempt at gun control in Congress was shot down by Republicans who called the effort a failed gun control ploy. Democrats pressed hard for the law to be passed and Republicans reacted swiftly to block the legislation.

Democrats tried to paint common guns as the “boogeyman” in an effort to take them away from law-abiding citizens. Republicans pointed out how the guns in question don’t fit the latest liberal narrative and that citizens’ rights need to be protected.

From the Daily Caller:
Senate Republicans blocked legislation that would have banned certain semi-automatic firearms Wednesday, with one calling the proposed ban “unjustified and unconstitutional.”

At the center of the ban attempt was Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY). The legislation was based on a 1994 law that tried to brand certain semi-automatic rifles with extra cosmetic features as “assault” weapons. The ban back then focused on these weapons that have detachable magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds.

Republican Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming stood up for all law-abiding gun owners and successfully halted the Senate from passing the latest ban attempt. Barrasso blocked a unanimous consent request by Schumer.

“They describe semi-automatic rifles as assault rifles. They aren’t. Any farmer rancher or outdoorsman in Wyoming can tell you these rifles work the same way as popular shotguns and other rifles used for hunting and for personal protection,” Barrasso said during a speech on the Senate floor.

Barrasso went on to expose Democrats as not facing the facts and trying to demonize rifles and “disrespecting gun owners.” He called the Democrats’ latest ban attempt an “assault on lawful gun owners.”

The Republican senator continued to erode Democrats’ gun control efforts by pointing out a contradiction in the anti-gun narrative.

“Democrats want to enact new laws on law abiding citizens,” Barrasso said. “At the same time, they ignore the law breakers. Almost every single page of the bill that’s in front of us today adds new restrictions and new burdens on people who follow the law.”

He pointed out how the proposed legislation would tell people what they could and couldn’t buy as it would ban more than 205 rifles, shotguns, and pistols by name. The legislation, S.25, was introduced by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and was designed to ban the sale or transfer of the semiautomatic firearms listed or described. It would have allowed current owners to keep them.

Barrasso assailed the legislation as “unjustified and unconstitutional” on its face. He said Democrats’ efforts are not about safety, but an effort to deliver a “bumper sticker solution” to ban guns and label responsible gun owners as criminals.

U.S. Concealed Carry for Saving Lives Action Fund Executive Director Katie Pointer Baney said in a release that studies have shown that the 1994 “assault weapons” ban was ineffective.

“And while anti-gun politicians and activists like to create a boogeyman out of semiautomatic rifles, the truth is they’re used in a tiny fraction of violent crime committed each year,” Baney said.

Key Takeaways:

  • Republicans shoot down latest Democrat attempt to ban lawfully owned guns.
  • GOP senator blocks the legislation and calls it a Democrat “bumper sticker solution.”
  • Barrasso said Democrats want to harm gun owners and ignore law breakers.
