Democrat Senator Arrested in Blue State – Now She’s Facing Serious First-Degree Charges

People have done crazy things for love and money. This Democrat proved that holding a political position doesn’t mean the person is always thinking straight when they act out.

A bad decision can ruin a career and no level of political influence can prevent the impending punishment for crimes. This is a harsh reality, but more politicians should consider this outcome before they venture down a darker road.

A wild scenario that was almost comical took place this week in a Midwest State where a Democrat found herself in jail. The Democratic state senator allegedly acted like a cat burglar in the wrong house and got caught.

From Fox News:
A Democratic state senator in Minnesota was charged with first-degree burglary on Tuesday after authorities say she broke into her stepmother’s house where the lawmaker claimed she was trying to get her late father’s belongings, including his ashes.

Sen. Nicole Mitchell, 49, was booked into the Becker County Jail on Monday for a suspected first-degree burglary offense, according to online jail records.

The scenario unraveled when a homeowner on the 700 block of Granger Road in Detroit Lakes reported an active burglary to 911 around 4:45 a.m. Local police said they found Mitchell dressed in black clothing and a black hat. Police reportedly found a flashlight with a sock over it and a black backpack containing two laptops, a cellphone, a driver’s license, Senate identification and Tupperware.

Mitchell allegedly entered through a window and told investigators that she was trying to get her father’s ashes, photos, a flannel shirt and other items of sentimental value, police stated. The wild scenario unfolded because, according to Mitchell, her stepmother wouldn’t give her the items.

“I was just trying to get a couple of my dad’s things because you wouldn’t talk to me anymore,” Mitchell allegedly said to her stepmother she was placed under arrest.

Mitchell, of Woodbury, represents District 47. She was elected to the state Senate in 2022 and was previously a meteorologist for KSTP-TV and Minnesota Public Radio. She also currently serves as lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard.

Mitchell’s arrest creates a big headache for Democrats who hold a one-seat majority in the state Senate with four weeks remaining in the legislative session. The Senate Democratic Caucus responded as expected and said in a statement that it is “aware of the situation and has no comment pending further information.”

The alleged burglary and ensuing arrest shocked even Republicans in the state legislature. Republican Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson of East Grand Forks said legislators were aware of the arrest but did not know more details.

“The public expects legislators to meet a high standard of conduct,” Johnson said. “As information comes out, we expect the consequences to meet the actions, both in the court of law, and in her role at the legislature.”

Key Takeaways:

  • A Democrat state legislator was arrested for alleged burglary of her stepmother’s home.
  • Nicole Mitchell was charged after she allegedly dressed in all black and stole items.
  • Her arrest could derail the Democratic majority in the Senate, not to mention her career.
