Throughout the primary season, we have been stunned over who is supporting which candidate. Some very hitters have waited for months before issuing endorsements or donations.
It is possible people have been watching to see if there is a GOP candidate who can rival Donald Trump.
One particular candidate has been pulling ahead of other frontrunners. And now, a major donor has dropped a large donation. But this person, a billionaire co-founder of Linked-In, is actually a Democrat.
From The Post Millennial:
A major Democrat donor is financially supporting Republican Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign in an attempt to defeat former President Donald Trump from winning the GOP nomination.Reid Hoffman, the billionaire co-founder of Linked-In, has donated $250,000 to SFA Fund Inc., the super PAC supporting Haley’s campaign, according to the New York Times.
In what might come as a shock to many Republicans, Democrat donor Reid Hoffman has contributed $250,000 to a super PAC trying to get Nikki Haley to win the nomination. It appears the Linked-In co-founder is eager to help Haley defeat Donald Trump in next year’s primary battles.
Haley was once considered a longshot candidate in the GOP race. But in some polls, she has pulled ahead of Ron DeSantis for second place. Donald Trump continues to hold a commanding lead over every other candidate.
But there appears to be some within the GOP who believe either Haley or DeSantis can win the nomination from Trump.
Although Hoffman is a longtime Democrat donor and supports Biden, he has been donating to Republican candidates. He appears to be selecting anti-Trump politicians and causes. At one point, he helped fund a lawsuit against Donald Trump, based on accusations by E. Jean Carrol.
It is unclear if Hoffman truly believes Haley can win the nomination. Does Hoffman want Haley to run against Biden and win? That is probably unlikely. Hoffman, like many Democrats, probably fears Trump ending up on the general election ballot.
He might be assuming Haley has a better chance of losing to Biden–who is suffering from low approval and bad polls. It is possible Hoffman is supporting Haley, expecting her to fail in November.
Key Takeaways:
- Major Democrat donor Reid Hoffman has donated $250,000 to Haley’s presidential efforts.
- The liberal donor gave the money to a super PAC backing Haley’s campaign.
- Hoffman has contributed money to numerous candidates and issues opposed to Donald Trump.
