In recent months, Americans have woken up to the increased danger of foreign espionage. Communist China was caught flying a balloon over the entire country. Later, we discovered that Chinese police were in the country, monitoring Chinese nationals. Coupled with millions of migrants flooding the border, Americans have good reason to worry about national security.

A new story is revealing just how serious the situation is becoming. The Department of Justice just arrested a man. He is being accused of endangering the United States. This man was connected with two federal agencies, with top secret clearance. And this was going on under Joe Biden’s nose.

The Justice Department announced Thursday that Abraham Lemma, a 50-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen of Ethiopian descent living in Silver Spring, has been charged stemming from his alleged actions while working as a State Department IT administrator and management analyst for the Justice Department.

The DOJ just arrested and charged a former government contractor who provided IT support. Lemma worked for both the State Department and Justice Department. According to reports, he had top secret clearance.

Now, the agency is accusing him of selling secrets to a foreign intelligence service. The DOJ did not mention which country but noted that Lemma is of Ethiopian descent.

The alleged crimes took place between December 19, 2022 and August 7, 2023. Lemma is being accused of copying information from Intelligence Reports. He also supposedly removed the classification markings from them.

The DOJ claims Lemma “accessed, copied, removed, and retained this information without authorization.”

It remains to be explained how this man received top secret clearance. Government contractors generally receive less access to data than government workers. Even still, they must undergo intense vetting by the FBI, before they are allowed any level of clearance.

For Lemma to gain top secret clearance, only to allegedly spy on the U.S. government, will no doubt raise numerous questions. It is possible that a congressional hearing will be conducted, to get to the bottom of this situation.

Lemma, if convicted, could face the death penalty or “any term of years” in prison, up to life.
