The crime epidemic sweeping major cities has been well-documented. Large cities, mostly run by Democrats, have seen a wide variety of crimes explode in recent years. Many have blamed policies implemented by Democrats, which have defunded police departments, eliminated cash bail, and ignored crimes like shoplifting or B&E.

Nearly every large city has seen an increase in crime. And from all appearances, it is only getting worse. The nation’s capital is not immune from this chaos. Crime continues to grow in D.C., a major tourist center. City leaders are apparently refusing to curtail the crisis. And now, some are issuing warnings to visitors.

House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil, (R-Wis.) on Monday warned would-be visitors to Washington, D.C. of rising crime in the nation’s capital and advised people how to respond to criminal acts and to minimize the risk of being victimized by violence like carjackings…

…the Mexican consulate in Washington, D.C., has warned its citizens that “The city of Washington, D.C. is experiencing a significant increase in crime in areas previously considered safe. Take precautions. In an emergency, call 911.”

Crime has risen dramatically in recent years. Homicides have risen by 28% since 2022. They are on pace to beat a 20-year record. Robberies are up by 67%. Residents are reportedly driving, instead of walking, because they are afraid of getting attacked on the street.

Rep. Bryan Steil warned visitors to the city of the rise in crime. That will surely discourage people from visiting. Those who have no choice, like congressional staff, were told by police not to wear jewelry while outside and to leave no valuables in plain view.

Local police have not appeared to promise increased efforts to end the crime wave. And D.C. city council members, largely far-left activists, have done seemingly nothing to increase public safety.

Even the Mexican consulate has warned nationals to avoid D.C. Mexico has a tarnished reputation for crime and violence at the hands of drug cartels (in some areas). Yet, even they are worried about the rise in crime in D.C. and are warning Mexican nationals.

According to reports, 25 cars are stolen in D.C. a day. That includes carjackings, where drivers are thrown from their cars into the streets. Leaders have said there is no sign that the crime is slowing down. In fact, if the city continues Democrat-supported policies, the crime could get much worse.
