Woke Court Takes Child Away from Parents – Now They’re Racing to the Supreme Court

Parents across American want to be able to raise their children as they see fit according to the moral and religious beliefs. They don’t want others, especially the government, intruding on their God-given rights to parenting.

The problem with government is that when it is infected by people who are openly willing to oppress others, people’s rights get trampled. Parents are living in fear in areas of the country where the government is attacking parental rights.

An Indiana family was ripped apart recently by activist government officials who want to control parents’ actions. The parents in the case were labeled as unfit because they refused to bow to government oppression.

From Fox News:
A Catholic couple in Indiana is asking the Supreme Court to hold the state accountable for keeping their child out of their home after they declined to use his chosen name and pronouns.

In M.C. and J.C. v. Indiana Department of Child Services, Mary and Jeremy Cox are appealing to the Supreme Court after they were investigated by Indiana officials for refusing to refer to their son using pronouns and a name inconsistent with his biological sex.

“This is what every parent is afraid of,” Mary and Jeremy Cox said in a press release. “We love our son and wanted to care for him, but the state of Indiana robbed us of that opportunity by taking him from our home and banning us from speaking to him about gender.”

The case started in 2019 when the parents’ son told them he identified as a girl. This went against their Catholic religious beliefs that God created people with two sexes – male and female. The did not believe in using pronouns that didn’t describe his biological sex.

The parents also were concerned that their son was battling mental health conditions such as an eating disorder and they sought medical help. Activist Indiana officials got involved after being told the parents weren’t referring to the boy according to his preferred gender identity.

Indiana officials then removed the teenager from the Coxes home and placed the child in a “gender-affirming” custodial home. In an instant the family was ripped apart by government-sponsored leftist activism.

State officials claimed the removal was based on eating disorders caused by the parents. This allegation of abuse didn’t hold up because the child’s condition worsened in the gender-affirming home, so they moved the child to a transition-affirming home.

State officials later determined the allegations of abuse against Mary and Jeremy Cox were unsubstantiated but stood their ground in arguing that the gender identity disagreement was distressing to their child. The state attorney general flip-flopped on that assessment and now claims the case is all based on abuse that created the eating disorders.

The Coxes want the Supreme Court to take up their case to regain their parental rights and protect parents across the country. The parents are being supported by Becket which fights for religious liberty.

“Keeping a child away from loving parents because of their religious beliefs—even when the state admits there was no abuse or neglect—is wrong and it’s against the law,” Lori Windham, vice president and senior counsel at Becket, said. “The Court should take this case and make clear that other states can’t take children away because of ideological disagreements.”

What the Supreme Court should do is take away the out-of-control power of these state offices and let parents be parents. If parents can be held accountable for everything they do that distresses a child, there will be no parents except the government activists.

Key Takeaways:

  • Indiana parents asked for help from the Supreme Court after state officials take their child.
  • The teenager was taken because the parents refused to use the “proper” pronouns.
  • The parents warned that what happened to them can happen to any parent in the U.S.
