Donald Announces Cost And Length Of Border Wall To Be Built In 2018

One of Donald Trump’s biggest promises to the American people was a border wall. This barrier would prevent criminal aliens from entering the United States.

It’s been a full year and we’ve seen little progress with the wall. The vow that Mexico would pay for the wall has all been forgotten. Republicans and Democrats have scoffed at the prospect of a wall. More and more resistance has prevented a single brick from being laid.

Now we are learning more about the White House’s plans for the border wall. And it looks like they fall short of many people’s expectations.

From The Daily Caller:

The Trump administration is seeking $18 billion to construct about 700 miles of border wall and fencing over the next decade, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

The funding would go towards adding to or replacing the existing 654 miles of border barrier, bringing the total to nearly 1,000 miles, or about half of the entire southwest border.

Part of a border security package totaling $33 billion, the wall funds include $9 billion over the first five years and $8.7 billion over the next five years, according to a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) memo described to WSJ. The administration envisions using the funds to construct some sort of physical barrier — fencing or solid wall — across 970 miles of the border by 2027.

Donald Trump promised a border wall that covered the entire U.S.-Mexican border. But this 1,000-mile barrier is only half that. The huge price tag doesn’t mention if Mexico will flip the bill. And the length of time it would take to build it is hardly acceptable.

Who’s to blame for this fumble? We could blame Democrats, who will never support the construction of a wall. They want more illegals entering the country to boost their voter base.

What about the GOP? Many Republicans are too cowardly to support the wall. They are afraid of blowback if too many people back home don’t like the idea. Without strong support from the Republican base in D.C., the wall can never go forward.

In the end, though, the blame is on the White House. President Trump made big promises to the American people. It was those promises that got him elected. But if that wall doesn’t go up, millions will feel betrayed. At least Obama was able to get health care legislation in his first term.

If Trump cannot make good on his promise to build a wall, what will happen? 2018 might be a bloodbath. 2020? That will all but go to the Democrats.
