Colleges across the United States have been overrun by anti-Israel demonstrators protesting the Israel-Hamas war. The on-campus agitators have divided students and faculty while making extreme demands related to supporting the terrorist organization responsible for the massacre of 1,200 Israelis on Oct. 7.
While some college administrators have caved to the demands of radicals who have called for the destruction of the U.S. and Israel, others decided they would not be forced into siding with the raging protestors. There have been refreshing scenes of police removing the violent agitators instead of allowing them to further damage colleges.
An East Coast state college took a stand against the protests and dismantled one of the most woke programs infesting higher education. The financial move sent a clear message that enough was enough with the radical ideology meant to destroy higher learning across the United States.
From The Daily Wire: The University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill’s board of trustees has voted to gut funding for the school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) department and give the money to campus police instead.
UNC Chapel Hill’s board voted unanimously to redirect $2.3 million in diversity funding toward campus safety and police at a special meeting on Monday to address the university’s budget.
“I think that DEI in a lot of people’s minds is divisiveness, exclusion, and indoctrination,” budget committee vice chairman Marty Kotis said. “We need more unity and togetherness, more dialogue, and more diversity of thought.”
The move could essentially eliminate the school’s diversity office.
The board decision follows weeks of anti-Israel demonstrations on campus. Several arrests have been made related to the protests.
Board members called out the college for funding programs that do not meet the needs of most students and programs that don’t relate directly to educating students. Kotis said the needs of 30,000 students on campus should be strongly considered instead of catering to “100 or so that may want to disrupt the university’s operations.”
“My personal opinion is that there’s administrative bloat in the university,” Board Chairman David Boliek told the Raleigh News & Observer. “Any cuts in administration and diverting of dollars to rubber-meets-the-road efforts like public safety and teaching is important.”
Protesters have raged against Israel and the U.S. at the UNC Chapel Hill campus for weeks. More than 30 people were detained last month at a pro-Palestinian encampment on campus. The radical agitators pulled down the American flag and replaced it with a Palestinian flag.
“When you destroy property or you take down the U.S flag and you have to put up gates around it — that costs money,” Kotis said. “It’s imperative that we have the proper resources for law enforcement to protect the campus.”
UNC Chapel Hill is the centerpiece school of North Carolina’s public university system. The school system is set to vote next week regarding replacing the current diversity policy. Removing the policy would negate a 2019 DEI regulation for the 17 schools in the university system and potentially eliminate multiple DEI jobs within the schools.
A repeal vote would initiate an immediate change to the new policy.
UNC has been embroiled in a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that hit the school system along with Harvard University. The high court ruled against the schools’ affirmative action policies. The decision has impacted the admissions processes at colleges and universities across the country.
Key Takeaways:
- UNC Chapel Hill trustees voted to gut the DEI program and give the money to campus police.
- The move is a slap in the face of radical anti-Israel protesters and liberal ideologists alike.
- Campus police could gain millions for the department while DEI jobs could be eliminated.
