California Democrat Pulls The Rug Out From His Party – Salas Demands Prop 47 Reversed After California Smash-And-Grabs Increase

What’s Happening:

It’s no secret that liberal-run states are experiencing a crime crisis. Things are especially bad in the once-Golden State of California. Leftist policies have dramatically emboldened criminals. Thefts and shoplifting have gotten so bad that roving gangs have free rein to rob stores. Smash-and-grab crimes are putting countless people out of business.

But, to the shock of most sane Americans, California Democrats appear to be doing nothing about it. They seem to hem and haw over the issue, ignoring what must be done to fix it. But one Democrat is seeing the light. He knows exactly what caused this crisis—and what must happen to end it.

From Fox Business:

A Democratic California lawmaker introduced a bill that would reverse the state’s Proposition 47, which has been blamed for the rampant shoplifting and smash-and-grab crimes plaguing the state…

California’s Proposition 47 passed in 2014 and reduced shoplifting charges regarding the theft of $950 or less from felonies to misdemeanors. The new bill would lower the amount a suspect can steal before facing a felony to $400, which was the original threshold before Prop 47 passed.

Democratic Assemblyman Rudy Salas is bucking his party to reverse a bill that has led to rampant crime. A bill passed in 2014 reduced the penalty of most shoplifting. Thefts worth $950 or less were changed from felonies to misdemeanors. That resulted in less severe penalties for those who break the law.

Gee, what do you think happened, next? Criminals were emboldened to steal more. If they didn’t fear strong repercussions, of course, they would continue to break the law. Democratic Assemblyman Rudy Salas has had enough and is proposing a bill to return to the previous law, which set the threshold at $400.

It’s unclear if this measure will see the light of day. First, the state legislature would have to pass it. And California voters would then need to support it as a ballot measure. How likely are Democrat lawmakers to vote for this bill—when they cry on and on about “criminal justice reform”?

Even if Salas can get enough support for this in the legislature, how will Californians vote? These are the same people who elected far-leftists into office. The sane residents, fed up with this failure, are fleeing to other states.

Hopefully, enough people will be smart enough to support this bill.

Key Takeaways:

  • Democratic Assemblyman Rudy Salas from California turned on his party to end a crime surge.
  • He proposed a new bill that would increase shoplifting to felony charges.
  • This bill is a reversal of a 2014 measure, that some believe triggered the crime wave.
