A New York Jewish leader who served as a Democratic lawmaker for decades announced that he is switching to the Republican party stating that members of his former party have been “radicalized” and “turned their back” on the Jewish people.

Dov Hikind… tweeted “It’s official: My wife and I have switched our party affiliation from Democrat to Republican!”

Wow. Dov Hikind served as a New York State Assemblyman for 36 years. For that entire time, he was a Democrat. He joined the party because he believed it respected and defended the rights of Jewish Americans.

But now, he and his wife have switched parties and are now Republicans. This will send shockwaves through the Jewish community in NYC, which is a strong Democratic voting bloc.

Hikind seemed to be breaking from the party for years now. He often criticized Democrats’ unwillingness to rebuke anti-Israel and anti-Semitic members in Congress. Hikind is also a supporter of Donald Trump, especially when the former president supported the nation of Israel.
