Though most national polls show Joe Biden with a significant advantage, it’s feasible that President Donald Trump could close the gap before election day.
One of the question marks facing the Biden campaign is his son’s business issues. Hunter Biden has come under heavy scrutiny for his overseas actions, and this has placed Joe in a tough position.
And it can be difficult to focus on a campaign when the FBI has an open investigation into your son.
A Department of Justice (DOJ) official confirmed the situation just this week:
The FBI opened a criminal investigation into Hunter Biden and his associates back in 2019. They’ve been looking to allegations of money-laundering, according to Sinclair reporter James Rosen.
Now, if the matter had been investigated and closed, it wouldn’t be a problem for Joe.
But as Rosen tweeted, the case isn’t closed at all:
EXCLUSIVE: A @TheJusticeDept official confirms that in 2019, the @FBI opened up a criminal investigation into "Hunter Biden and his associates," focused on allegations of money-laundering, and that it remains open and active today. More very soon on your @WeAreSinclair stations.

The investigation in question will continue, perhaps now with more urgency as the FBI reportedly has possession of the infamous Hunter Biden laptop.
The laptop allegedly holds thousands of personal emails that discuss his international business dealings, and a major topic of conversation is obvious: was his father involved, and to what extent?
Then you have the recent testimony from Hunter Biden’s former business partner, Tony Bobulinski.
Bobulinski went on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson and claimed the Biden family was “compromised.” He also made a series of grave accusations and bold statements.
For example, he said $5 million from a Chinese company was supposed to fund his own company, but ultimately went to a bank account controlled by Hunter Biden.
He says Biden called this a “consulting fee,” which remains highly questionable.
The bottom line is that the FBI hasn’t concluded their investigation. And with the new round of evidence – the laptop and Bobulinski’s claims – the case will likely continue for some time.
Whether or not this has an impact on voting remains to be seen.
But either way, the Trump campaign might seize the opportunity to paint the Biden family in a negative light, and hopefully curry more favor among the American public.
Key Takeaways:
- The FBI opened an investigation into Hunter Biden’s alleged money-laundering in 2019.
- That investigation remains “open and active.”
- With recent evidence in play (including the recovered laptop and testimony from one of Hunter’s business associates), the FBI’s case will likely continue.
